Are you ready to tell your boss where to stick it? Before flying off the handle and leaving your current job without a backup plan, look at ways to minimize stress where you’re at right now.
Maintain boundaries. Sure there’s no “I” in TEAM but it is very important to set personal boundaries at work about what you feel is acceptable and is not. Does someone sit at your desk to chat with their friend whilst you’re on break? Not acceptable. You have a specific way of working and you don’t need the petty annoyance of having to rearrange your desk every time you come back from lunch. Plus it’s flat-out invasive to know someone’s been in your space. Simply and professionally tell the intruder not to occupy your space whilst you’re gone. If the transgression continues, report it.
At work you may also be asked to do things you don’t want to. In part, that’s why you’re being paid to be there – but that doesn’t mean you should be required to go against your personal ethics at every turn. Keep those kind of things in check.
Another reason workers are so stressed these days is because they feel they can’t effectively take a vacation without drama; the problem is you must find a balance between work and play if you are to be healthy and happy. Know your rights and adhere to them. You don’t have to go far or go away for long. There are terrific deals out there for holidays in the UK – have a look, book one and go. You’ll come back with a grin and ready to get back to work.
